“Ode to Monks”

唐五言律诗。诗云:“夙植怀真智，奢年厌世华。不求朱紫贵，高谢帝王家。削发清尘境，披缎镊海涯。苍生已度尽，寂嘿入莲花。"似为当时敦煌流行的和尚赞诗。

A five-character eight-line poem from the Tang Dynasty. The poem reads: “The monk has possessed true wisdom all along and in his prime he grows tired of the bustling world; with no desire for an official post or high status, he has left the royal court. With his hair tonsured his mind is free from worldly concerns and putting on a Buddhist robe he is ready to devote himself to the great pursuit. When his life ends, he fulfills himself by attaining long-lasting peace.” The work is believed to be a popular poem for praising monks at that time.
