定义

压迫是指统治阶级为维护其利益，利用政权的暴力机关、舆论机构等专政机构压制、镇压、强迫被统者，以达到服从统治阶级意志的目的。从政治学角度看，压迫是国家的实质性内容——国家就是一个阶级对另一个阶级的压迫。按照马克思的观点，压迫是阶级矛盾不可调和的结果，是统治阶级维护其所属的生产关系的基本政治手段之一。凡是有压迫的地方就有反抗，中国人民自近代以来就饱经帝国主义、封建主义和官僚资本主义的压迫和欺压。1840年以后，封建的中国逐渐变成半殖民地、半封建的国家。中国人民为国家独立、民族解放和民主自由进行了前仆后继的英勇奋斗。20世纪，中国发生了翻天覆地的伟大历史变革。1911年，孙中山先生领导的辛亥革命，废除了封建帝制，创立了中华民国。但是，中国人民反对帝国主义和封建主义的历史任务还没有完成。1949年，以毛泽东为领袖的中国共产党领导中国各族人民，在经历了长期的艰难曲折的武装斗争和其他形式的斗争以后，终于推翻了压在中国人民身上“三座大山”，即帝国主义、封建主义和官僚资本主义的压迫，并取得了新民主主义革命的伟大胜利，建立了中华人民共和国。从此，中国人民不再受到“三座大山”的压迫，并掌握了国家的权力成为国家的主人（全国人民代表大会常务委员会法制工作委员会，2004：1）。
