定义

反映事物与事物、本质与本质、现象与现象之间相互联系的哲学范畴，是事物相互联系的必要因素。辩证唯物主义认为，关系是客观的，它存在于事物之间。任何事物总是处在和其他事物的一定关系中，只有在同其他事物的关系中，它才能存在和发展，其特性也才能表现出来。这种关系表明事物彼此之间存在着一致性，从而在此基础上形成不同事物、特性的统一形式，即表现为一定的关系；关系也是不断改变、变化着的，事物的发展变化会导致该事物同其他事物原有关系的改变、消失并产生新的关系，而这种事物间关系的变化又会引起事物本身的变化；关系也是多种多样和无限复杂的，事物之间的关系因为万事万物及其特性的复杂性和无限多样性而呈现出复杂性和无限多样性。根据各种不同类型的关系，不同事物及其特性彼此联系在一起。例如时间和空间的关系，整体和部分的关系，原因和结果的关系等等。现代科学发展的整体化趋势及日益精细的分工趋势，各种边缘学科的不断诞生，深刻地揭示着事物、现象及其要素之间联系和关系的辩证性质。科学研究的任务就在于通过事物之间的相互关系发现其本质和规律性。所以，无论在社会科学还是在自然科学中，关系范畴都发挥着极为重要的作用（廖盖隆，1993：237）。
