A group of five vernacular lyric poems from the Tang Dynasty. The copy was originally titled “Wu Xiang (The Formless) to the Tune of Wu Geng Zhuan,” with the poems followed by Gatha on Wu Xiang (incomplete). The poems suggest that people should cultivate themselves and attain enlightenment gradually according to Buddhist doctrine, but they seem to demonstrate the Zen doctrine of subitism (sudden enlightenment).
