敦煌藏经洞出绢画“炽盛光佛并五星神”图，乾宁四年（897）绘，中有金星侍女，横抱一曲项琵琶，站立持拨演奏，此琵琶形制为梨形，宽腹、细头、曲项、四弦、四轸，面板上绘有捍拨，有风眼。

It is a silk painting unearthed in the library cave of Dunhuang. Named as the Picture of the Buddha Shakyamuni and Five Stars (Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, Venus, and Mercury) in which the Venus god, stands, embraces and plays a Chinese lute. This lute is pear-shaped, with a wide belly, thin head, bent neck, four strings and four pegs, as well as a plectrum and a hole for sound on the panel. It was drawn in 897AD.
