“Karma Story of Mulian”

唐代因缘类作品。叙述目连为了拯救地狱中的母亲，在佛陀的指导下于七月十五日设盂兰盆会，又诵经七天七夜，终使母亲升天。

A karma story, known as yuanqi or yinyuan in Chinese, from the Tang Dynasty. According to the story, in order to save the soul of his mother from hell, Mulian (Maudgalyayana), guided by the Buddha, held a prayer ritual at the Buddhist festival Ullambana on the fifteenth of the seventh lunar month and recited sutras for seven days and nights; as a result of his efforts the soul of his mother was ultimately able to ascend into heaven.
