1.嫉妒，憎恨 be jealous of; envy：猜～ cāijì be suspicious and jealous/ ～才 jìcái be jealous of other people's talent; envy some people more able than oneself
2.怕，畏惧 fear; dread：肆无～惮 sìwújìdàn unbridled; impertinent ［顾忌 gù-］有所顾虑，不敢大胆说话或行动 scruple, hesitation caused by uneasiness of conscience：有话尽管说，不要有什么～～ Yǒu huà jǐnguǎn shuō, bùyào yǒu shénme gùjì. Don't hesitate to tell us whatever you want to.
3.禁戒 abstain from; give up：～酒 jìjiǔ give up alcohol/ ～口 jìkǒu avoid certain food (as when one is ill)/ ～食生冷 jìshí shēnglěng avoid cold and uncookedfood ［忌讳 -huì］1.由于风俗、习惯的顾忌，言谈或动作有所隐避，日久成为禁戒 taboo, a particular activity or subject which habits and customs regard as forbidden, not to be touched, spoken, etc. 2.对某些能产生不利后果的事力求避免 avoid; shun (sth. that may produce some offensive effects) |
