1.充，担任 work as; serve as：开会～主席 kāihuì dāng zhǔxí work as the chairman in the meeting/ 人民～了主人 rénmín dāngle zhǔrén The people have become the masters of the country. ext. 承担 assume：担～ dāndāng take on; undertake ［当选 -xuǎn］选举时被选上 be elected：他～～为人民代表 Tā dāngxuǎnwéi rénmín dàibiǎo. He was elected a deputy of the people.
2.掌管，主持 run; manage：～家 dāngjiā manage household affairs/ ～权 dāngquán hold power; be in power/ ～局 dāngjú the authorities
