1.很，极 very; extremely：进步～快 jìnbù shèn kuài make very rapid progress/ 他说得未免过～ Tā shuō de wèimiǎn guòshèn. What he says is rather drastic. ［甚至 -zhì］［甚至于 -zhìyú］连词 conj. 表示更进一层 furthermore; even to the extent that：不学习就会落后，～～会犯错误 Bù xuéxí jiù huì luòhòu, shènzhì huì fàn cuòwù. One who does not study will fall behind or even make mistakes./ 旧社会劳动人民生活极端困难，～～～连糠菜都吃不上 Jiùshèhuì láodòng rénmín shēnghuó jíduān kùnnɑn, shènzhìyú lián kāngcài dōu chībushàng. In the old society, the life of the labouring people was so hard that they even couldn't afford to eat chaff and wild herbs.
2.超过，胜过 surpass：更有～者 gèng yǒu shèn zhě That is more./ 日～一日 rì shèn yī rì become better and better (or worse and worse)
3.同“什么” Same as “什么”：要它作～？ Yào tā zuò shèn? What is the use of it?/ 姓～名谁？ Xìng shèn míng shéi? What's his full name? shén 见“什” see shén |
