1.从东西的两旁钳住 press from both sides; place in between：书里～着一张纸 Shū li jiāzhe yī zhāng zhǐ. The book has a piece of paper inserted in between its leaves./ 手指间～着雪茄烟 shǒuzhǐ jiān jiāzhe xuějiāyān hold a cigar in between two fingers ext. 1.两旁有东西限制住 confined by sth. on both sides：～道 jiādào a narrow lane; passageway/ 两山～一水 liǎng shān jiā yī shuǐ a river flows in between two mountains 2.从两面来的 coming from both sides：～攻 jiāgōng attack from both sides; converging attack
2.胳膊向肋部用力，使腋下放着的东西不掉下 carry sth. under one's arm (pressing it against the ribs with the arm)：～着书包 jiāzhe shūbāo carry a schoolbag under one's arm
3.搀杂 mix; mingle ( comb. -杂 -zá be mixed up with)：～七杂八 jiāqī-zábā incoherent; confused/ ～生 jiāshēng (of food) half-cooked
