| 释义 | »» 云 yún MC hjun 1. to say so; e.g. 再三云 zàisān yún, he said so three more times; cog. 曰 yuē, say. 2. introduces indirect quotation or summary, non-citation speech: say(s) that; e.g. 黃帝之書云至人居若死動若械 huángdì zhī shū yún zhìrén jū ruò sǐ, dòng ruò xiè, the Documents of Huangdi say that a perfected individual at rest is as if dead, in motion is as if a machine. a. 云爾 yún’ěr, used to indicate substance of speculation, imagined or hypothetical speech: said (or thought) thus, said (or thought) like this > so one thought: 其心曰是何足與言仁義也云云 qí xīn yuē shì hézú yǔ yán rényì yě yún’ěr, in their hearts they were saying, “this person, how is he adequate to discuss Humaneness and Propriety with,” so they were saying (thinking); 曰薄乎云云惡得無罪 yuē bó hū yún’ěr, wùdé wúzùi (Mencius) said, “It was indeed slight,” so he was saying (thinking); but how can he be without fault? 3. clause- or sentence-final particle closing off a direct or indirect quotation or citation: so (it was) said 子曰汝安知魚樂云 zǐ yuē rǔ ān zhī yú lè yún, You said [to me], “wherein do you know about the pleasures of a fish?” (so you said); 入云則入坐云則坐食云則食 rù yún zé rù, zuò yún zé zuò, shí yún zé shí if “enter” is said, then he enters; if “sit” is said, then he sits; if “eat” is said, then he eats. 4. as a reference to any kind of vocal expression: 事已敗矣乃重太息其云益乎 shì yǐ bài yǐ, nǎi chóng tàixī qí yún yì hū the matter has been completely defeated; as for your repeated great sighing, is that kind of vocal expression helpful? 5. reaching to the point, up to, come (round) to . . . (esp. in Shijing); e.g. 日之云夕 rì zhī yún xī, when day turns to evening. a. 云何 yúnhé, reaching to what point; how much more . . .
