(iv) 無可奈何 wúkěnàihé, 無可奈 wúkěnài, there is nothing that can be done about X; e.g. 夫智不足以見賢，無可奈何矣 fú zhìbùzú yǐ jiànxián, wúkěnàihé yǐ, in any case where someone’s knowledge might be insufficient to recognize merit, there is nothing that could be done about it; 唯無形者無可奈也 wéi wúxíngzhe wúkěnài yě, esp. for those things without a shape, there is nothing that can be done about them. (v) 莫奈 mò nài, in no case a way to deal with something, no way to manage something; e.g. 人莫予奈 rén mò yú nài, others have no way to deal with me. 2. ⦿ 柰 nài, crab-apple (Malus pumila).
