Described as having the body of a roe-deer, tail of an ox, feet of a horse with round hooves, light brown in color, and with a single horn whose tip is not of bone but of flesh (thus incapable of harming other animals). Chief among hooved creatures. One of the “four numinous animals” (siling 四靈). Emblematic of humaneness (ren 仁); said to appear when a sage-king is on the throne or a sage exists to recognize it. 2. rdup., brightly shining. 3. ⦿ 鱗 lín, scales of fish.
