| 释义 | »» 青 qīng MC tsheng 1. generally ref. to the glaucophyllous range of color from blue-black to dark-green; associated in wuxing correspondences with the phase or agent of wood, the season of spring, direction east, etc.; e.g. 青龍 qīnglóng, blue-green dragon, emblematic animal of springtime; also, ref. the eastern quadrant of the sky. a. dark blue; color of pigment produced from azurite; e.g. 青丹 qīngdān, azurite and cinnabar, blue and vermilion > polychrome painting. b. blue, azure, as the color of the sky, e.g. 青天 qīngtīan; N.B. 青雲 qīngyún, “clouds in the blue,” short for 青天之白雲 qīngtīan zhi báiyún, white clouds in blue sky, not “dark (gray, blue, blue-green) clouds.” c. indigo-blue, color of pigment produced from the indigo (藍 lán) plant. d. blue-glinting, when describing glossy highlights of something luxuriously or deeply black. N.B. qīng itself is never “black” or “gray.” 2. green, as the color of vegetation, e.g. 青草 qīngcǎo. 3. (bn.) 青熒 qīngyíng (MC tsheng-hweng), palely gleaming, shimmering, twinkling. 4. 青魚 qīngyú, the black carp, black roach (Mylopharyngodon piceus; actually dark-green in color); ⦿ 鯖 qīng. 5. 青箱 qīngxiāng, celosia, plumed cockscomb (Celosia argentea), tropical plant with feathery spikes of usu. red or pink flowers; 青榨 qīngzhà, Père David’s maple (Acer davidii), small snakebark maple with multiple trunks and long, arching branches; 青萍 qīngpíng, common duckweed (Lemna minor).
