| 释义 | »» 真 zhēn MC tsyin 1. real, true < true to its own nature; natural, authentic, genuine. a. what really is supposed to be (cf. 實 shí, what actually is or happens to be). b. pure, perfect, of thoroughgoing genuineness; e.g. 真金 zhēnjīn, pure gold, finest gold. c. realize(d), perfect(ed), actualize or bring to completion one’s inherent qualities; e.g. (Dao.) 真人 zhēnrén, Realized Persons, the Perfected, term found as early as the 6th chapter of Zhuangzi and used in various movements, but esp. influential in Shangqing Dao. to designate the highest class of divine beings whose home is in the Shangqing heaven and who are completely spiritualized. d. ideal, worthy to be imitated. 2. true < what is real and not illusory; e.g. (Budd.) 真人 zhēnrén, “one who embodies truth,” trns. of Skt. arhat; 真諦 zhēndì, absolute truth; 真心 zhēnxīn, the true mind, trns. of Skt. anākula, calm and unperplexed; 真如 zhēnrú, true suchness, trns. of Skt. bhūtatathatā, unchanging absolute reality that transcends the duality of SUBJ and object, as intuited through gnosis. a. consistent with fact or reality (ant. 假 jiǎ, false, simulated). b. accurate; truthful(ness); verity; e.g. 真率 zhēnshuài, straightforward and honest. 3. really, actually, truly, indeed. 4. (med.) 真臘 zhēnlà (MC tsyin-lap), Chinrap, trsc. of Viet. Chân Lạp, name for kingdom that occupied most of present-day Cambodia, Laos, and part of Vietnam till 802 when supplanted by the Khmer empire; (Budd.) 真丹 zhēndān, name for China when spoken of by foreign figures in pre-Tang Budd. texts.
