又作“五弦”，古代弹拨乐器。汉、魏时期由西域传人内地，隋唐之际流行于宫廷燕乐中。其形制与四弦琵琶相近，音箱略小，为半梨形，有直颈、曲颈两种，在敦煌壁画中可见其形状。

It is also called “Wu Xian” in Chinese, which means "five-string". It is an ancient string musical instrument which entered central regions from the Western Regions during the Han and Wei Dynasties. It was widely used in music performances during the Sui and Tang Dynasties (581-907AD). It looks like a four-string lute but with a smaller voice box. It is semi-pear shaped with a straight neck or curved neck. It can be seen in Dunhuang frescoes.
