定义

本体论对性质或属性的研究可以划分为本质属性和非本质属性或偶有属性来进行分析（张华夏，1997：69）。非本质属性同本质属性相对。非本质属性包括事物的派生属性、偶有属性。如两足直立、有感情、蓝色眼睛、黑色头发等属性都是人的非本质属性（金炳华等，2001：351）。非本质属性是对该事物不具有决定意义的属性。例如，商品的多少、种类、贵贱等属性，对“商品”这个事物来说并不具有决定意义，也就是说，这些属性并不能决定某一事物是商品而不是别的。非本质属性并不一定为该事物所独有，其他的事物也可能具有此种属性。在认识事物时，应首先区分出本质属性和非本质属性，以便准确地把握事物的质；同时，也应尽可能地把握事物的非本质属性，以便更全面更深刻地认识事物。从辩证逻辑角度看，确定某一事物的本质属性和非本质属性，必须联系到人们的实践活动。在不同的实践关系下，对某一事物的本质属性和非本质属性可以作出不同的区分（汪馥郁等，1990：14）。
