“迦陵频伽”是由印度古梵文所翻译而来，意思是妙声鸟或美音鸟，是佛国世界里的一种人首鸟身鸟翅鸟尾的神鸟。迦陵频伽乐伎常被绘在经变图中佛陀的下方，乐队的两侧或前方乐池平台上、在水池前的曲桥或平台之上、或站立在莲花之上，其形象常是人首鸟身，形似仙鹤，彩色羽毛，翅膀张开，两腿细长，头上戴童子冠或菩萨冠，一般对称排列，与礼佛乐队相似。

Kalavinka, a term translated from Sanskrit, refers to a type of bird with a sweet sound or voice. It is a divine bird dwelling in heavenly Buddhist realms. It has a man’s head and a bird’s body, tail, and wings. In sutra illustration paintings, Kalavinkas are usually painted below the Buddha, on both sides of the orchestra, on the stage or dais in front of the orchestra pit, on the curved bridge or dais in front of a pool of water, or standing on a lotus. Usually the image is of a bird with a human head, resembling a crane with slender legs and colorful feathers, spreading its wings and wearing a man’s or Bodhisattva’s topknot. Kalavinkas are generally arranged symmetrically, similar to a group of musicians performing liturgical music.
