“Karma Story of an Ugly Girl”

又名《金刚丑女因缘》、《丑女金刚缘》、《丑变》。唐代因缘类作品。叙述波斯匿王之女容貌奇丑，礼佛后貌若春花；佛又说宿世因缘，言此女前生供养辟支佛，因而今生得生王家，又因前生曾道辟支佛面丑，以致今生面容丑陋。

Also known as “The Story of the Transformation of an Ugly Girl”, it is a karma story, known as yuanqi or yinyuan in Chinese, from the Tang Dynasty. In the story, the King of Persia had a daughter who was born ugly; after the girl worshipped the Buddha, she immediately became beautiful. The Buddha then explained the karmic connection between the girl’s past life and her present life. In her past life, the girl made offerings to a Pratyekabuddha but at one time she joked about his ugliness, so in the present life, her retribution consisted of being born into the imperial family but punished with physical ugliness.
