Caisson (Zaojing)

定义

是常见于汉族宫殿，坛庙建筑中的室内顶棚的独特装饰部分。一般做成向上隆起的井状，有方形、多边形或圆形凹面，周围饰以各种花藻井纹、雕刻和彩绘。多用在宫殿、寺庙中的宝座、佛坛上方最重要部位。

Caisson (zaojing): a characteristic ceiling decoration, commonly found in traditional Chinese palaces and temples. As a sunken panel in a square, polygon, or circular concave shape, the caisson is put in the center of the ceiling which usually rises upward like the top of a canopy, and is surrounded by flora and fauna patterns, carvings, and colored paintings. The caisson is typically located directly above the most prominent position in a palace or temple, such as the main throne or the main religious figure.
