定义

阶级地位和历史使命阶段的无产阶级。与“自在阶级”相对。在马克思主义指导下，这时的无产阶级认识到资本主义剥削制度的本质和整个无产者利益同整个资产者利益的对立;他们反对的不只是直接剥削他们的个别资本家，而是整个资产阶级;在自己政党集中统一领导下自觉地、有组织地展开反对资产阶级的斗争;斗争的范围不局限于经济斗争，还包括政治、思想各个领域，并最终发展为夺取政权的政治斗争。从欧洲来看，1834年法国里昂工人的武装起义，1836年开始的英国工人的“人民宪章”运动，1844年德国西里西亚纺织工人的起义等，表明无产阶级已经从资产阶级革命的同盟者转变为和资产阶级直接对抗的独立的政治力量，以后由于科学社会主义的创立和指导，逐渐由自在阶级变成自为阶级。这同时是对资本主义的认识由感性阶段上升到理性阶段的飞跃。（金炳华，2003：334）。
