人们在社会生产、分配、交换和消费过程中的活动，表现为各种经济现象，而各种经济现象背后内在的、本质的、必然的联系，就是经济规律，即社会经济发展过程中所表现出的不以人们的意志为转移的客观的内在的本质的必然的联系。在社会经济发展过程中呈现出来的是各种各样的经济现象，而在社会经济现象的各种联系中间，既有偶然的不是规律性的联系，又有客观的规律性的联系。客观规律性的联系对经济现象的发展和变化起着决定的作用。这种内在的本质的联系，就是经济规律。经济规律发生作用具有必然性，且在同样的经济条件下会不断重复出现，经济学家将这种必然性描绘为：“强制地为自己开辟道路”（via: http://baike.baidu.com/link?url=0jKt1IRVORQIJGYB18c684U9odI2bX_vk1S7NH3qHs44T4RDhhWJMTqglh6l_FNEgqtPHh4mWSiF4qi0qq14fK）。经济规律同自然规律一样，都是客观过程的内在的联系，具有客观必然性，是不依赖人的意志为转移的，不管人们主观上是否认识经济规律，它总是客观存在和必然发生作用的。同时经济规律又有着与自然科学规律不同的特点，即具有社会性，它是在主要由社会生产关系构成的一定的经济条件的基础上产生的，它不是长久不变的，至少是其中的大多数只是在一定的历史时期中发生作用。随着旧的经济条件的消失，经济条件下的经济规律也就失去作用，退出历史舞台，让位给新的经济条件下的经济规律。马克思主义经典作家都是按经济规律办事的杰出表率，他们在探索经济规律，认识经济规律和运用经济规律等方面作出了巨大的成就和贡献（杨圣明，2009：48）。在社会经济建设的过程中，必须摸清经济规律，遵循经济规律。
