Thick Waist Drum

定义

与腰鼓的形制相反，其特点是两头细、中间粗，类似陕北流行的腰鼓形状。北魏第257窟南壁、第435窟北壁天宫乐伎演奏此乐器，西魏第248窟北壁一身天宫乐伎也演奏这一乐器。不同的是前者挂在胸前演奏，后者将鼓身竖起来，鼓面呈上、下形状，由一身天宫乐伎左、右手交替演奏，颇有特点。敦煌壁画中的鼓面横形较多，竖形较少，这是横行鼓面的一例。另外，隋代洞窟也发现两件粗腰鼓，由飞天乐伎演奏，形式独特，并有彩绘装饰，颇为美观。粗腰鼓数量不多，但演奏方法却多种多样。

It's shape is thick in the middle section and slim at both ends. Generally, it looks like the waist drum popular in the Northern Shaanxi district. The heavenly musicians in the frescoes of the southern cave No.257 of the Northern Wei Dynasty, the northern cave No.435 play this kind of drums by holding it to their chest. But the musicians on frescoes of Cave No.248 of the Western Wei Dynasty play this drum by placing it on a stand and play it with either hand alternatively. In addition, another two thick waist drums were found in caves of the Sui Dynasty. The two drums, with paintings on them, are played by apsaras. The paintings are unique and beautiful. Though only a small number of thick waist drums have been discovered they are played in various ways.
