定义

次要矛盾，也称非主要矛盾（高清海，1988：291），与主要矛盾相对，指在复杂事物的矛盾体系中对事物的发展过程不起决定作用、居于被支配地位的矛盾（高清海，1988：207）。唯物辩证法认为，在复杂事物的矛盾体系中，只有主要矛盾对事物的发展过程起决定作用，次要矛盾受主要矛盾支配（廖盖隆，1993：253）。但次要矛盾对主要矛盾也有制约和影响的作用。次要矛盾的发展及解决与否，对主要矛盾的发展和解决有着影响（彭漪涟，2010：608）。同时，次要矛盾并不是凝固不变的。主要矛盾和次要矛盾的区别不是绝对的，在一定条件下它们可以互相转化（金炳华等，2007：92）。“在事物发展过程的不同阶段，虽然过程的根本性质、根本矛盾没有改变，但由于出现了新的条件，前一阶段的主要矛盾也可以降到次要的、服从的地位，而原来的某一次要矛盾则可以上升到主要的、支配的地位。这种主次矛盾地位的迭变，构成了事物发展过程的不同阶段”（廖盖隆，1993：253）。因此，必须注意事物在不同发展阶段中主要矛盾与次要矛盾的发展变化，在集中力量解决新的主要矛盾的同时，也要对次要矛盾予以恰当处理，这不仅有利于更好地处理主要矛盾，也有助于使自己的思想和行动不断适应客观事物矛盾运动的新情况、新变化（彭漪涟，2010：608）。
