Curved Qin

或称弯颈琴，元代乐器。音箱似勺状，与琴杆连为一体，构成弯形，有五根弦，扶手纵向排列，仅空弦就可奏出宫、商、角、微、羽五个音。琴头向左、右方向曲卷，整体造型别致、美观。出现在第465窟(元)东披，由一身供养菩萨双手抱于怀中，未见演奏，独此一件，应属敦煌本土乐器。

A plucked musical instrument from the Yuan Dynasty, also called a curved-necked qin. The body resembles a gourd ladle. The body is joined to the neck, and is shaped into a curve. The instrument has five strings. The five sounds, gong, shang, jiaozhi, and yu can all be produced with open strings. Its head curls left and right, and the whole image is exquisite and beautiful. Seen on the eastern slope of Mogao Cave 465 (built during the Yuan Dynasty), it is held by an attendant Bodhisattva in her two arms, but not played. Being the only image of this instrument, it may have been local to Dunhuang only.
