异化的扬弃是指异化的自我否定和自我发展。在马克思异化劳动理论产生以前，各种唯心主义假定存在“原初状态”或“本真状态”，认为只要回归这种“原初状态”或“本真状态”就能够达到异化的扬弃（张庆熊，2010：28）。马克思认为，一切异化现象都根源于劳动异化，因此异化的扬弃首先必须是扬弃异化劳动。由于社会分工和私有制、商品交换的产生了劳动异化现象，因而异化劳动产生的根源是不合理的社会分工和私有制。马克思通过他在《1844年经济学哲学手稿》中开始建立的新的方法把社会科学研究中的必然与自由、现实与目标的问题辩证地统一起来，认为资本主义社会是私有制和商品经济的高度发达阶段，它使异化劳动达到了极点，同时也为克服异化劳动、消灭私有制创造了条件，即高度发达的生产力和无产阶级。共产主义社会就是要消灭不合理的分工和私有制，扬弃异化，实现人的复归和人的本质的真正占有。而在共产主义社会中，劳动是一种自觉、自由的劳动，是每一个平等的社会成员应尽的义务，并为每一个人提供全面发展和表现自己能力的机会，它不再是奴役人的手段和负担，而是一种快乐。因而，在共产主义社会中，一直统治着历史的客观的异己的力量才处于人们自己的控制之下，人们才完全自觉地创造自己的历史。因此，异化的扬弃是人类解放事业的一个历史阶段和必然环节。马克思通过分析异化的扬弃，揭示了资本主义必然灭亡，社会主义必然胜利这一历史规律，这是马克思主义思想史上的一个重要思想（廖盖隆，1993：369）。
