十世纪时每年正月十五日固定的例行佛事活动。在莫高窟由敦煌地方最高军政长官（节度使）亲自主持燃灯仪式，并由其僚属或佛教界领袖人物宣读固定程式的《岁首窟上燃灯文》，称颂最高统治者及其家族的功德，祈愿在新的一年里社会的稳定和繁荣。

This is an annual Buddhist ceremony held on the fifteenth day of the first month of the lunar year during the tenth century. This ceremony was hosted by the highest military governor of the Mogao Caves district. The subordinate officer or leading Buddhist clergy would read an accompanying text to pay tribute to the highest governor and his family and to pray for stability and prosperity in the coming new year.
