Changbian Preaching

又作倡辩。吟唱和辩说。中唐以后，唱辩在民间与寺院逐渐盛行，亦是敦煌写卷中各类讲唱文学作品的基本表演形式。尤其是俗讲经文，唱辩形式最为完备。

Changbian (chanting and debating), refers to a preaching form that gained popularity among the lay people and in Buddhist temples during the mid-Tang Dynasty. It was also the basic performance style for various oral literary works from the Dunhuang manuscripts. The form of Changbian preaching was the most well-developed, particularly as regards sutra preaching to the lay community.
