Shazhou

定义

州名。汉至魏晋名敦煌郡。前凉张骏以敦煌、晋昌、高昌三郡及西域都护、戊己校尉、玉门大护军等三营合为沙州，因地有鸣沙山得名。

Shazhou: Dunhuang was referred to as Shazhou after having been called Dunhuang Prefecture from the Tang Dynasty to the Jin Dynasty. During the period of the Sixteen Kingdoms, Zhang Jun, ruler of the Former Liang state, integrated three prefectures, Dunhuang, Jinchang, and Gaochang, with three garrison towns and called it Shazhou because of Mingsha Mountain located there.
