Maoyuan Drum

打击类膜鸣蜂腰型乐器，腰鼓的一种。唐杜佑《通典》载:"毛员鼓似都罢鼓，而稍大。”在敦煌壁画中，毛员鼓的分辨办法，是稍大、不用绳索，鼓面隆起，腰身略粗，即是。

A percussion membranophone and a type of waist drum. As described in Tongdian—a history book written by Du You in the Tang Dynasty: “the maoyuan drum is like the duba drum, only a little bigger.” In the Dunhuang murals, maoyuan drums can be identified by these features: they are bigger, they have no ropes, the head of the drum has a bulge, and the waist of the drum is wider.
