敦煌壁画还出现有曲颈阮咸，由曲颈琵琶演变而来，四弦、四轴、音箱圆形，音箱与琴杆相接处之琴杆略粗，头部曲颈，头顶部菱形。如第290窟(北周)东壁两身飞天乐伎演奏的均为曲颈阮咸，并将两件曲颈琵琶排列在一起，甚为少见。

There is Qujing Ruan Xian in Dunhuang frescoes, which is derived from Qujing Pipa. It has four strings and four tuning pegs with a round sound box. The connection part of the sound box and the body is thicker than the body. The neck is curved and the top head is rhombic. There are two Apsaras musician playing Qujing Ruan Xian together on the east wall of Cave No.290 (the Northern Zhou Dynasty), and such arrangement is quite special.
