Hanging Drum

定义

木为鼓腔，两面蒙皮，状如桶形。北周第290窟西壁下部一药叉乐伎胳膊上演奏挂鼓，很有特点。史书未见记载，壁画上确有图像，暂定名为挂鼓”，其侧有一演奏横笛者，挂鼓似为其敲击节奏。

A percussion instrument. The shell (body) of the drum is made of wood, and shaped like a bucket, with two drumheads, one on either end. In the lower part of the west wall in Mogao Cave 290 (Northern Zhou, AD 557–581), a Yaksha is seen playing a drum hanging from his arm. Next to the drum player, there is someone playing the flute; the drum is probably providing accompaniment. The drum, tentatively called a hanging drum, has not been found in any historical documents, but its image is seen in frescoes and murals.
