隋代乐器，音箱呈葫芦状，五弦、五轴、琴头尖形，面板上装有图案。主要出现在隋代第262,420, 423等洞窟。第262窟的五弦葫芦琴由供养菩萨乐伎演奏，由于演奏者姿态婀娜端庄，栩栩如生，更衬托出五弦葫芦琴的美丽。第420窟和第423窟的五弦葫芦琴则由飞天乐伎演奏，体态飘逸，动律感甚强，似可隐约听到琴声的优美。五弦葫芦琴也应是敦煌本土乐器，因直到目前，还未见有类似造型的乐器出现与记载。

It is an instrument of the Sui Dynasty. The sound box resembles the gourd. It has five strings and five tuning pegs, with a sharp head. There are patterns decorated on its surface. Most of this lutes are found in Cave No.262, No.420 and No.423 of Sui Dynasty. The Five-string Gourd Lute in Cave No.262 is played by Provider Bodhisattva musician. The elegance and beauty of the musician is vividly depicted, which has manifested the charm of this lute. Those in Cave No.420 and Cave No.423 are both played by Apsaras. The flying images are graceful and implicate a sense of rhythm. When looking at it, people seem to hear its enchanting melody. The Five-string Gourd Lute is a locate instrument of Dunhuang as no recordings of such instrument has been found by now.
