{According to The Governor of the Southern Tributary by Li Gongzuo of the Tang Dynasty, a man by the name of Chunyu Fen once dreamed of becoming the Governor of the Southern Tributary or the ‘Great and Peaceful Kingdom of the Scholartree’ and enjoying all the comforts of luxury and pomp, only to wake up to the realization that the so-called ‘Great and Peaceful Kingdom of the Scholartree’ was none other than an ants’ nest under the big Chinese scholartree south of his house. From the story is derived the phrase, ‘the dream of the southern tributary’, meaning a fond dream or wishful thinking.} |
