1.脸对着墙,指对事情不介意或无所用心。{facing the wall; be unconcerned or indifferent}
2.〈佛教Budd.〉指脸对着墙静坐默念。南北朝时印度僧达摩来华,据传在嵩山少林寺面壁而坐九年,潜心修道。后来用‘面壁’指专心于学业。{sit in silence and read silently while facing the wall. It is said that when Bodhidharma, a Mahayana Buddhist monk from India, came to China in the Southern and Northern Dynasties (the 6th century), he sat facing a wall in the Shaolin Temple at Mount Songshan and devoted himself to self-cultivation for nine years. Hence the phrase ‘facing the wall’, meaning ‘utter devotion to study’.}
