问鼎wèndǐng春秋时,楚子(楚庄王)北伐,陈兵于洛水,向周王朝炫耀武力。周定王派遣王孙满慰劳楚师,楚子向王孙满询问周朝的传国之宝九鼎的大小和轻重(见于《左传》宣公三年)。楚子问鼎,有夺取周王朝天下的意思。后用‘问鼎’指图谋夺取政权{During the Spring and Autumn Period, King Zhuang of the State of Chu launched a northern expedition, and deployed his troops along the Luoshui River to show off his might to the Zhou Dynasty. King Ding of the Zhou sent Wangsun Man to bring gifts to pacify the Chu troops. With the intention of seizing the power of the Zhou Dynasty, King Zhuang enquired Wangsun about the size and weight of the Nine Tripods, hereditary national treasures of the Zhou Dynasty (see The Zuo Commentary·Duke Xuan 3rd Year). The phrase ‘enquire about the Nine Tripods’ is used to imply ambition to seize political power}:
