邯郸学步Hándān xué bù战国时有个燕国人到赵国都城邯郸去,看到那里的人走路的姿势很美,就跟着人家学,结果不但没学会,连自己原来的走法也忘掉了,只好爬着回去(见于《庄子·秋水》)。后来用‘邯郸学步’比喻模仿别人不成,反而丧失了原有的技能。{learn the Handan walk — lose the ability one already has in trying to acquire a new trick (originally from the parable in Zhuangzi·Autumn Floods about a man from the State of Yan, who went to Handan, capital of the State of Zhao, and, taking a fancy to the graceful way the local people walked, began to learn the ropes, but, before he could master what the Handan people had to teach him, he forgot his own way of walking and had to crawl all the way back home); attempt to walk like a swan, the crow loses its own gait; imitate sb. without success, and lose one's own individuality} |
