负荆fùjīng战国时,廉颇和蔺相如同在赵国做官。蔺相如因功大,拜为上卿,位在廉颇之上。廉颇不服,想侮辱蔺相如。蔺相如为了国家的利益,处处退让。后来廉颇知道了,感到很惭愧,就脱了上衣,背着荆条,向蔺相如请罪,请他责罚(见于《史记·廉颇蔺相如列传》)。后来用‘负荆’表示认错赔礼{bear bramble twigs to express contrition. Lian Po and Lin Xiangru were officials of the State of Zhao during the Warring States Period. In recognition of his great merit, Lin Xiangru was appointed senior minister, a position which put him above Lian Po in rank. The chagrined Lian Po took every opportunity to slight him. In the interest of the state, Lin Xiangru went out of his way to avoid the conflict. When Lian Po finally realized this he felt very ashamed.
