| 释义 | ‘臣口不能言,然臣期期知其不可’(见《史记·张丞相列传》)。又三国魏邓艾也口吃,说到自己的时候连说‘艾艾’(见《世说新语·言语》)。后来用‘期期艾艾’形容口吃。{According to Records of the Historian·Biography of Prime Minister Zhang, Zhou Chang, a stuttering court official of the Han Dynasty, was arguing with Emperor Gaozu when he said, ‘Though I cannot express it adequately, I, I definitely know that this cannot be done.’ Another case of stuttering is found in the person of Deng Ai, a general of the kingdom of Wei of the Three Kingdoms Period who, according to A New Account of Tales of the World·Diction, was given to stammering whenever he pronounced his own name.
