尖音指z、c、s声母拼i、?或i、? 或i、? {sharp and rounded sounds; combined term for sharp sounds and rounded sounds. Sharp sounds are the consonants z, c, s combined with vowels beginning with i, ? or i, ?, while the rounded sounds are the consonants of j, q, x combined with vowels beginning with i, ? or i, ?. In some dialects, the two categories are differentiated, e.g. 尖, 千, and 先 are read as ziān, ciān, and siān, while 兼, 牵 and 掀 are read as jiān, qiān, and xiān. In the pronunciation of putonghua, the two are not differentiated, such as 尖=兼 for jiān, 千=牵 for qiān, and 先=掀 for xiān. In the kunqu opera, the so-called range of the sharp and rounded sounds is much broader; the difference between z, c, s and zh, ch, sh is also called ‘sharp and rounded sounds’. For instance, 灾 zāi is a sharp sound, 斋 zhāi is a rounded sound, 三 sān is a sharp sound, and 山 shān is a rounded sound.} |
