宁可nìngkě表示比较两方面的利害得失后选取的一面(往往跟上文的‘与其’或下文的‘也不’相呼应{oft. preceded by 与其 yǔqí or followed by 也不yěbù}){wouldrather; expressing the choice preferred after comparing the advantages and disadvantages of two choices}:
与其在这ㄦ等车,～走着去{would rather walk there than wait for the bus here}|他～自己吃点亏,也不叫亏了人。{He would rather stand to lose than make other people lose.}[注意]NOTE:
如果舍弃的一面不明显或无须说出,可以单说选取的一面(常常加‘的好{·dehǎo}’,意思等于‘最好是…’)。{The speaker can state the preferred choice without mentioning the choice given up, which is not obvious or does not have to be mentioned, and in this case it is oft. followed by 的好·dehǎo, meaning ‘it would be better’.}如{e.g.}:
