东施效颦Dōngshī xiào pín美女西施病了,皱着眉头,按着心口。同村的丑女人看见了,觉得姿态很美,也学她的样子,却丑得可怕(见于《庄子·天运》)。后人把这个丑女人称做东施。‘东施效颦’比喻胡乱模仿,效果很坏。{imitate awkwardly; crude imitation with ludicrous effect. When Xi Shi, a famous beauty, fell ill, she knitted her brows and pressed her chest with her hand. An ugly woman in the same village saw her and found the pose beautiful. So she copied her gestures only to look more ugly (Zhuangzi·The Revolution of Heaven). This ugly woman was later called Dong Shi. The idiom is used to describe one who blindly copies others to only make things worse.} |
