1.用手掌向上承受着东西 hold in the palm; support with the palm or hand：～着枪 tuōzhe qiāng hold a gun in one's hands
2.衬，垫 set off; serve as a foil：烘云～月 hōngyún-tuōyuè paint clouds to set off the moon; provide a foil to set off a character or incident in a literary work
3.(-儿 -r)承托器物的东西 sth. serving as a support：茶～儿 chátuōr saucer/ 花～儿 huātuōr receptacle
