1.不容易 difficult; hard ( comb. 艰- jiān- hardship)：～事 nánshì a difficult matter; difficulty/ ～题 nántí a difficult problem; a hard nut to crack/ ～写 nán xiě hard to write/ ～产 nánchǎn difficult labour; (of a plan, etc.) difficult of fulfillment/ ～得 nándé hard to come by; rare
2.不大可能 hardly possible：～免 nánmiǎn hard to avoid/ ～保 nánbǎo there is no guarantee; one cannot say for sure ［难道 -dào］副词 adv.加强反问语气 used to give force to a rhetorical question：河水～～会倒流吗？ Héshuǐ nándào huì dàoliú mɑ? Can a river flow backwards?/ 他们能完成任务，～～我们就不能吗？ Tāmen néng wánchéng rènwu, nándào wǒmen jiù bù néng mɑ? If they can finish the task, why cannot we?
3.使人不好办 put sb. in a difficult position; make things difficult for sb.：这可真～住他了 Zhè kě zhēn nánzhù tā le. It really puts him in a spot.［难为 -wei］1.令人为难 be a tough job to sb.：他不会跳舞，就别～～他了 Tā bù huì tiàowǔ, jiù bié nánwei tā le. He simply cannot dance; so don't press him to. 2.亏得，表示感谢 used to thank sb for doing a favour：这么冷天～～你还来看我 Zhème lěngtiān nánwei nǐ hái lái kàn wǒ. It is really very kind of you to come to see me in such cold weather./ ～～你把机器修好了 Nánwei nǐ bǎ jīqì xiūhǎo le. Thank you very much for having repaired the machine.
4.不好 bad; unpleasant：～听 nántīng unpleasant to the ear/ ～看 nánkàn ugly; unsightly〈古 arch.〉又同“傩”(nuó) Also same as “傩” nàn |
