1.多年生草本植物，生在浅水里，开淡紫红色小花。嫩茎经黑穗病菌寄生后膨大，叫茭白，果实叫菰米，都可以吃 wild rice, perennial herb growing in shallow water with small light purple flowers. The tender stem will swell as a result of the parasitism of smut viruses and become "jiāobái" (wild rice stem); the fruit is called "gūmǐ". Both stem and fruit are edible.
