1.出代价暂用别人的东西 rent; hire, pay rent for the use of others' things：～房 zūfáng rent a room/ ～家具 zū jiājù hire furniture ［租界 -jiè］帝国主义者强迫被侵略国家在通商都市以“租借”名义划给他们直接统治的地区 concession (in former times, a tract of land in the aggressed country's port orcitysupposedly on lease to, but actually seized by imperialist powers and put under their colonial rule) ［租借地 -jièdì］一国以租借名义在他国暂时取得使用、管理权的地区。租借地的所有权仍属于原来国家，租借期满交还 leased territory; leasehold, land held on a lease by a foreign country, which only obtains the right of use and administration of the place, but has no right of possession and has to return the land when the term of lease is due
