1.应当，理应如此 ought to be; should be ( comb. 应- yīng- should)：～做的一定要做 Gāi zuò de yīdìng yào zuò. What ought to be done must be done.
2.表示根据情理或经验推测必然的或可能的结果 will probably; can be reasonably or naturally expected to：不学习，思想就～落后了 Bù xuéxí, sīxiǎng jiù gāi luòhòu le. If you do not study, you will fall behind in thoughts.
3.指前面说过的人或事物，多用于公文 that; this; the above-mentioned person or thing, usu. used in official documents：～地 gāi dì this (or the said) place/ ～员 gāi yuán this member/～书 gāi shū that book
4.欠，欠账 owe; owe a debt：～他几块钱 Gāi tā jǐ kuài qián. (I) owe him a few yuan
5.同“赅” Same as “赅”. |
