1.长期居留或暂时歇息 live; reside or stay in a place for a long time or temporarily：～了一夜 zhùle yī yè have spent a night/ 他家在这里～了好几代 Tā jiā zài zhèli zhùle hǎo jǐ dài. His family has been living here for several generations./ 我家～在城外 Wǒ jiā zhù zài chéng wài. My family lives in the suburbs.
2.停，止，歇下 stop; cease; halt：～手 zhùshǒu stop; stay one's hand/ 雨～了 Yǔ zhù le. The rain has stopped.
3.用做动词的补语 (used after a verb) 1.表示稳当或牢固 firmly：站～ zhànzhù halt/ 把～方向盘 bǎzhù fāngxiàngpán hold the wheel firmly 2.表示停顿或静止 to a stop：把他问～了 bǎ tā wènzhù le get him here 3.表示力量够得上（跟“得”或“不”连用） withstand (used with "dé" or "bù")：禁得～ jīndezhù can help/ 支持不～ zhīchí bùzhù cannot hold out |
