ㄧㄡヽ副词 adv.
1.重复，连续，指相同的 repeated; in succession; again：他～立功了 Tā yòu lìgōng le. He rendered meritorious services again./ 今天～下雨了 Jīntiān yòu xiàyǔ le. It rained again today.
2.表示加重语气、更进一层 used for emphasis：他～不傻 Tā yòu bù shǎ. He isn't stupid at all./ 你～不是不会 Nǐ yòu bù shì bù huì. It isn't that you don't know how to do it.
3.表示平列关系 show parallelism in sentence structure：～高～大 yòu gāo yòu dà be both tall and big/ ～多～快 yòu duō yòu kuài not only greater but also faster/ ～好～省 yòu hǎo yòu shěng not only better but also more economical/ 我～高兴，～着急 Wǒ yòu gāoxìng, yòu zháojí. I was both happy and excited.
4.再加上，还有 (used between a whole number and a fraction) and：十～五年 shí yòu wǔ nián ten and five years/ 一～二分之一 yī yòu èr fēn zhī yī one and a half
5.表示某种范围之外另有补充 in addition：穿上了棉袄～加了一件皮背心 chuānshɑngle mián'ǎo yòu jiāle yī jiàn píbèixīnr put on a leather waistcoat in addition to a cotton-padded coat
6.表示转折 used, sometimes in pairs, to indicate contrary actions or ideas：刚还想说什么，可～把它忘了 Gāng hái xiǎng shuō shénme, kě yòu bǎ tā wàng le. I wanted to add sth. just now but I forgot what it was. |
